As a former teacher who retired in 1999 after 30 years, I'm appalled at the "meddling" schools are doing today in parent's/children's lives. When I taught, unless a child was in some kind of danger, we stuck to academics - you know: reading, writing, math, etc? Schools today are trying to raise children as little socialists/communists/LBGQwhateverists. Then the schools wonder why people don't want to go into teaching and why parents choose to remove their kids from public schools if they can at all afford to do so. Right wing Christians get a lot of blame, and yes: the young families in my church are 100% home schooling. They are trying to raise traditional, stable, family oriented children who don't necessarily agree with other life styles, but at least don't make them their business.

As a teacher of 31 years, I don't exactly *enjoy* criticism from parents, but understand its role. Not a day goes by that I don't critique my lessons and continue to search for ways to improve. If a parent has a criticism of something I did, or do, at least that is ONE parent that is taking an ACTIVE role in their child's education.
